Lutein 20mg, extracted from Marigold flowers, 75 capsules
Helps protect macula of the eye
Is an antioxidant that is responsible for the yellow colors of flowers, fruits and vegetables. But the best quality Lutein is that extracted from Marigold flowers. This is the Lutein used in high end supplements ike ours. You're born with a certain amount of lutein in your eye, but your body doesn't reproduce it.
Why is Lutein important to my sight?
The macula is the responsible for central vision. It's also the area that is most sensitive to blue light, the part of the visible light spectrum that, along with ultraviolet light, can damage your eyes. Luteinhelps protect against this damage by filtering blue light before it can damage the macula.
How much Lutein do I need?
The amount of lutein in the eye depletes with age. You need at least 20mg of lutein per day to help maintain proper eye health. Since your body doesn't make lutein, you must constantly replace it through the foods you eat. Dark, leafy green vegetables like spinach or kale are the usual sources as we do not eat Marigold flowers normally. But you'd have to eat over 7 bowls of raw spinach every day to get the recommended daily dose of 20 mg of lutein.
Taking a multivitamin may help, but many multivitamins contain only a fraction of the recommended minimum of 20 mg of lutein required daily just to maintain eye health. You need more toreverse eye health deterioration.A major study (called AREDS2) has shown that lutein and zeaxanthin can slow the progression of macular degenaration if you already have it.A test called macular pigment optical density is now being used by eye care specialists to measure levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in eye tissue. People who need glasses need 40mg daily to improve their eye health.
Results should be visible after only 3 months of taking 40mg of Lutein daily.
