Uncle Gamba decided to go for a drive and everyone wanted to join him-rabbit, cat, dog, sheep, chicken, calf, goat, a little boy and a little girl. Uncle Gan said, "Yes, but it will be a little crowded." So they set off happily.
There was a sudden heavy rain in the sky, and the car was a little slippery. Who will go down and help Gumbo push the cart? Every passenger said he was inappropriate. Until completely stuck in the mud ...
Editor's Choice
Still gentle John Burningham style, the dialogue is simple but interesting, with a small observation of life.
Many of the descriptions in the book are very visual, which involves rich verb vocabulary. It is very good for children to learn English and understand the characteristics of things. For example, when writing about everyone getting off the cart, they wrote: They pushed and shoved and heaved and strained and gasped and slipped and slithered and squelched. (They pushed, bumped and lifted, exhausted all their strength, panting heavily, and slipped and got up from the mud, making a wet sound.)
