Pregnancy Test Strip Instructions for Use
What is hCG? Is it a brand?
The hCG Urine
Pregnancy Test Strip
is a test kit for the determination of hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) in urine specimens. This test kit is used to obtain a visual, qualitative result for the early detection of pregnancy. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after fertilization. The appearance of hCG soon after conception and its subsequent rise in concentration during early gestational growth make it an excellent marker for the early detection of pregnancy.
INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
Negative
: Only one color band appears on the control region. No apparent band on the test region. This indicates that no pregnancy has been detected.
Positive
: Distinct color bands appear on the control and test regions. Presence of both test line and control line indicate that you are pregnant. The color intensity of the test bands may vary since different stages of pregnancy have different concentrations of HCG hormone.
NOTE: A positive test line will appear directly below the control line on the same test surface (or ‘result window’ area)
. Any line or accumulation of color/dye that appears at the juncture between test components should not be mistaken for "test line” (this is only the source of the test reagent !#!amp!*! dye).
Invalid
: No visible band at all. The control band will not appear if an insufficient volume of specimen is added into the test kit. Proper procedures may not have been followed in performing the test. Repeat with a new test kit. Please consult above instructions and follow precisely.
Should I use "first morning urine” to test for pregnancy?
To increase the accuracy – or more precisely to increase the possibility of receiving a positive test result
earlier
– it is advised to use a first morning sample when testing for pregnancy. Why? Unless you have urinated in the middle of the night, first morning urine should exhibit a higher concentration of the the pregnancy hormone, hCG. This means you can get an accurate result sooner than with other samples collected during the day or evening.
Should I not drink fluids before testing?
Along with holding your urine, you should not consume an exorbitant amount of liquids (which might cause frequent urination or dilute a urine sample). However, do not dehydrate yourself – just drink the normal amount of water you would anyway.
Bottom line – use a first morning urine sample to test and thereby increase the odds of detecting pregnancy sooner.
STORAGE AND STABILITY
The test kits can be stored at room temperature (18 to 30°C) in the sealed pouch to the date of expiration. The test kits should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat. Do not use test kit beyond expiration date. The test device should not be reused.
Ovulation Test Strip Instructions for Use
Luteinizing hormone (or LH) in elevated quantities causes ovulation (the release of the egg – or ovum – from the ovarian follicle). During the menstrual cycle only a small amount of LH is made, but in the middle of the cycle LH briefly and dramatically increases. This increase is called the "LH surge” and precedes ovulation. Conception is most likely to occur within thirty-six hours following the LH surge. The LH Ovulation Test is specifically designed to detect your LH surge – the time when you are likely to ovulate. If you receive a positive on an lh test, you are in your most fertile phase of your menstrual cycle.
COLLECTION
Collect urine once per day, at about the same time between 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. Do not use first morning urine as a sample. Collect urine in a clean, dry cup or container.
The sample may be stored at room temperature (15º-28ºC) for up to eight hours, or in the refrigerator for up to twenty-four hours. Do not freeze the urine sample. Let refrigerated samples reach room temperature before starting the test (this will take about 30 minutes). For best results, test the urine on the same day it is collected.
TEST PROCEDURE
STEP 1: WHEN TO START TESTING: Determine the length of the menstrual cycle. The length of the menstrual cycle is the number of days from the first day of menstrual bleeding to the day before bleeding begins on the next period.
Determine the usual length of the menstrual cycle over the last few months. Then, refer to the Ovulation Calendar Cycle Chart below to determine on which day of the menstrual cycle to begin testing. If your cycle is less than twenty-one days or greater than forty days, consult a physician.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE LH SURGE
After each test, you must decide if you are having an LH surge. If your test result is positive for two consecutive days, you are probably having an LH surge. An LH surge can last from one to three days. Ovulation is most likely to occur sometime within one to three days following the first day of the LH surge.
