Hey, y’all!
Summer’s here, and with it comes my greatest battle – frizz! A Clash of the Titans between my hair and my hairbrush, the likes of which most women will likely identify with. As a type 2c/3a curly, I guess it’s safe to say that the heat and the sweat don’t exactly bring out the best in my hair.
Considering this fact (and my job, haha), I’ve become a connoisseur of hair care products over the years. While some have worked and some haven’t, I’m here today to review a new favorite – the Moroccanoil Treatment. So, let’s get started, shall we?
Moroccanoil Treatment Light / Original
The Moroccanoil Treatment had been sitting on my checkout list for a while now, thanks to reviews from some friends and colleagues. Luckily enough, my mother picked it up for me on a recent trip to the USA, and so, I got a chance to try it for myself sooner than expected.
Description And Packaging
A quick overview of the product website says that Moroccanoil Treatment is a residue-free nourishing formula that can be used for conditioning, styling as well as finishing. It can be blended easily with other products. It not only accelerates the drying time but also transforms and repairs your hair. It replenishes your hair with lost proteins, fatty acids, omega-3 oils, vitamins, and antioxidants, imparting shine and strength and offering protection to your hair. The best part? It is absorbed instantly and helps your hair combat heat, styling, and environmental damage.
The Moroccanoil Treatment comes packaged in a clear brown bottle, sort of reminiscent of a beer bottle, but stockier than that (DIY fairy light lanterns using old beer bottles is quite the rage these days. Wondering if I should put my Moroccanoil bottle to the same use once I’m done!). It’s made of a sturdy glass (might want to keep it away from the kids, though), and is spill-proof. Also, the bottle comes with an old-fashioned screw cap on the top, so make sure you keep it properly sealed at all times.Coming to the packaging, which I feel is a true winner, the bottle, and the carton in which it is contained, are a throwback to the mosques and souks of Morocco. The charming blue on brown is an instant flash to the blue buildings standing tall amid the Moroccan desert, and as a product that calls itself ‘Moroccanoil Treatment’, it certainly has a lot of recall value.

Moroccanoil Treatment Original Review
As a type 2c/3a medium length curly, I’m constantly on the lookout for products that can help keep my hair hydrated. The curly hair type by definition is dry, as is most hair, whether curly or straight. Couple this with the rising pollution levels, lack of a proper diet, and the hard water most of us use to take our shower, and you’re looking at a condition where the hair is stripped off of nearly all its moisture and nutrients.
Considering this fact, the top three things I look for in any hair care product are:
- How well it is absorbed into my hair (when it comes to moisture, my hair’s like a bottomless well. So dry that it literally sucks the moisture right in).
- Whether it’s light or greasy. I dislike using products that weigh my hair down.
- How many applications it takes to start seeing results.
Keeping my list in mind, the good news is that the Moroccanoil Treatment delivers most of it, if not all. Since I prefer deep conditioning my hair with good old coconut oil, I have been using this product as a leave-in conditioner after washing my hair. It works well as a serum by locking the moisture in, and a healthy shine is visible right from the first application. My only complaint (if I had to think of one) is that you can’t overdo it with this product. Even a drop or two extra can make your hair slick and weigh it down as it is a thick, viscous oil. So, make sure that you know/experiment with the right amount for your hair type and length if you intend to start using this product.
Also, as the manufacturers claim, the Moroccanoil Treatment is helpful with styling too. My sister loves experimenting with her look, often blow drying and straightening her hair. She has tried using the Moroccanoil Treatment as a leave-in before styling her hair, and has reported good results with the same.
How To Use Moroccanoil Treatment Light/ Original?
Take a small amount of the product and apply to towel dried, damp hair. Make sure that you use the product from mid-length to the tips of the hair only (not on the scalp as it might make your hair greasy and weigh it down).
Alternately, the Moroccanoil Treatment can be used on dry hair too. Use a small amount to condition dry hair or tame fly aways before stepping out to work or party, and you’re good to go.
Rating
4/5
Scores on its ability to provide quick, visible results, ease of application, and application as a styling and finishing tool.
Taking a star off for its high price point. (NOT ANYMORE WITH OUR PROMOTION!! SO THAT'S A 5 STAR!!)
Will I Recommend Moroccanoil Treatment Light / Original?
Yes. If you don’t mind buying a product that is priced above its competitors in the same bracket, Moroccanoil Treatment is a must buy. Friends and colleagues have been swearing by it and have already made repurchases. Note that this product might work better on women/men who have medium to thick hair. Users with fine hair might find this oil greasy and overwhelming.
However, if you’d rather not spend so much on a single product, there are other options in the market that do a good job too. Also, since the Moroccanoil Treatment is not 100% natural, and it does come laden with chemicals, interested users who prefer keeping things organic might give 100% argan oil conditioners and products a go.
The Moroccanoil Treatment is an open secret in the fashion and beauty circles by now. Everyone from the likes of JLo to Taylor Swift to the ‘Pitch Perfect’ Anna Kendrick have graced the red carpet wearing the Moroccanoil Treatment, and when the divas are speaking, of course we’re listening!
So, if you’re in the market for a product that can help condition dry hair, treat split ends, and tame fly aways – and give a visible shine to your hair while at it – the Moroccanoil Treatment is definitely worth a shot. Additionally, I find that its conditioning, styling, and finishing aspects help you do away with multiple products for the same use. Clearly then, the Moroccanoil Treatment is here to stay, and if you don’t mind shelling out a few extra bucks – go for it! The word on the grapevine is, you’ll love it!
And remember, with products like these, less is always more.
